Think of AI as the smartest employee you ever hired. On day one they are a genius about the world and know nothing about your business. Setting one up is just answering five questions.
What you do and who you serve.
How the work gets done. Your steps and your standards.
Your knowledge and your voice. The stuff it learns from.
The tools and data it is allowed to touch. Email, calendar, phone, docs.
The guardrails. What it must never do without asking you.
Answer those five and you have hired and trained the employee. That is the whole setup.
Then you spell out C.L.A.U.D.E.
The six steps to actually set one up. It spells the thing you are building, so nobody forgets it.
Tell it about your business, who you serve, how you work.
Connect it to your real tools. Email, calendar, docs, your phone.
Teach it the skills, the jobs it will repeat for you.
Set the guardrails. You stay the pilot.
Feed it your documents so it answers from your stuff instead of guessing.
Put it on a schedule so it checks in and gets sharper over time.
Pick it, plan it, build it.
You are the pilot. AI is the rocket.
The model is the engine. The app you open is the cockpit. The rocket does not decide where to go. You do. People are scared it flies itself and leaves them behind. It does not. What it means is that a one-person shop can now reach orbit.
It replaces the tasks nobody wanted, not the judgment. Autonomy runs the how. You own the where and the why.
Almost all of it comes down to four wins
Three calls come in while you are up on a roof. A voice agent answers every one, books the job, puts it on your calendar. You never lost it.
The quote you write ten times a day becomes one sentence. Draft the quote for the Johnson job. Done.
The estimate that never got a yes gets chased. The customer you meant to call back gets called back.

The jargon, killed
Everybody throws around AI, LLM, GPT, and it makes normal people feel dumb. None of it is complicated once someone says it in plain English.
- AI
- Software that does things we used to think needed a human brain. Understand you, make a decision, write, talk.
- LLM
- Large Language Model. The engine inside a chatbot. Large because it read a huge chunk of everything ever written. That is the brain.
- GPT
- Generative Pre-trained Transformer, and you can forget those words. It creates, it already did its learning, and Transformer is the clever design that made it work. ChatGPT is the app, GPT is the engine.
- Model
- One specific brain. Claude, GPT and Gemini are all models. Newer usually means smarter.
- The three big brands
- ChatGPT is from OpenAI, Claude is from Anthropic, Gemini is from Google. Like Ford, Chevy, Toyota. They all get you there. Pick one and get comfortable.
- Prompt
- Just what you type or say to it. Your instruction, in plain English. There is no secret language.
- Hallucination
- When it says something wrong with total confidence. It is the one thing to watch. For anything that matters, you keep a hand on the wheel.
- RAG
- Giving the AI your own documents to look things up in before it answers, so it stops guessing and answers from your stuff. It checks your content before it opens its mouth.
- Agent
- A chatbot answers a question. An agent goes and does the whole job for you, step by step. That is the exciting part.
- Token
- Just how AI counts words for pricing. You do not need to think about it. Pennies.
- API
- The plug that lets two pieces of software talk to each other. It is how you connect the brain to your phone, your email, your calendar.
